Poker Player Mistakes

While playing at the poker table you should observe the actions of your opponents. Be careful to use the proper table etiquette, and avoid making common mistakes. You may wonder what the common mistakes that a poker player might make; here are the most common mistakes at the poker table:

1. Betting Out of Turn: Do not act until it is your turn to do so. Wait for your opponent that is seated on your right to act first before you do. Or you might be giving your opponent an advantage with your move. And you are giving the other players at the table a hint about your hand.

2. Making a String Bet: If it is your turn and you are going to raise, you have to announce that you will raise. You ought to place the bet, and then raise at the same time. If you place the bet first and then return to your stack to make a raise you will be called for making a "string bet"; this is not allowed, and the raise that you've made will be nullified.

3. Not knowing what the bet is: If it is your turn to bet, you must know what the bet is. Pay close attention to the amount bet by the players before you. You should also be aware if the bet was raised or not.

4. Folding rather than checking: If the player does not like their next card, sometimes they will fold immediately, if it is their turn. But if you are the first to act you can always check. If there is someone ahead of you who checked already, you have the chance of seeing your next card, if eveyone else follows suit, and checks.

5. Throwing your chips into the pot: Always remember to put the bet in front of you, so that the dealer can see your bet clearly. The dealer will have to scoop the bets and put them into the pot. And remember do not throw the bet on the pot.

6. Failing to protect your cards: At all times, the players should protect their cards. You can always put your hands, or your chips, on top of the cards, to prevent your cards from mixing with other cards when the dealer deals the cards. The dealer will declare a dead game if the cards are mixed up.

All the mistakes mentioned above are just few of the common mistakes that a poker player, new or old, might make. Remember to avoid such mistakes like these to make your game more clear and hassle-free.
