Slots Survey

Straban Township supervisors chose to delay debate of a survey about a proposed slots casino at a meeting Tuesday evening. The group submitted a 643-autograph appeal to supervisors at last month's meeting. At the meeting, the township supervisors agreed to create a survey, which they originally intended to review Tuesday.

But the township chose to holdup the survey. Township resident Carol Baran, who was involved in gathering the restricted group's petition, said she felt the supervisors had dragged their feet too long, and they should act on the petition rather than go through a survey process.

"Surveys ask what we think, petitions demand that you act." Martin said the township looked closely at the casinos on line petition specified by the Concerned Citizens. Of the 643 signatures, 275 were typed. Martin concluded that left 293 signatures by township inhabitants. The 51 signatures were most likely because a figure of people signed for their spouses, said Timothy Hamm, a co-chair of the citizens assembly.
